If you are a Lund University student who wants to undertake a traineeship in Europe, you may be eligible for an Erasmus traineeship grant.

Information in relation to the coronavirus

Note that no one can currently go on an Erasmus Traineeship due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This applies at least until 30 June 2020, but this period may be prolonged depending on the developments during the coming months.?

    Erasmus traineeship grant

If you want to do a traineeship at a company, organisation or research and education centre in one of the 32 Erasmus countries, you can apply for an Erasmus traineeship grant.

The grant should be a contribution to the expenses arising in connection with the traineeship period, such as travel and accommodation expenses. Depending on the country of the traineeship, the grant holder will receive approximately €465–€525 a month.

Students who are eligible to apply for an Erasmus traineeship grant

To be eligible to apply for the Erasmus traineeship?grant, you must be?a current student who is registered in full-time studies and intends to graduate at Lund University. It is also possible to do an internship after you have finished your studies, but you have to apply?for grant during your last semester as a registered?full-time student at Lund University.

Three ways to do an traineeship with an Erasmus grant:

    • As a part of a traineeship course or a degree project course that is a mandatory part of your degree programme at Lund University
    • As a voluntary traineeship that is not a part of your degree programme at Lund University
    • As a?recent graduate?(who has not yet applied for your degree certificate) and complete your traineeship within 12 months after graduation?

    Approved host organisations

You can do your internship at companies, organisations, or research and development centres.?If you are going to do a traineeship at a higher education institution, it must be clear that you should perform a job and not studies.

The following organisations are not authorised for Erasmus grants:

    • EU institutions and other bodies
    • Organisations dealing with EU programmes (such as international secretariats at universities). This is to avoid possible conflicts of interest and/or double financing.
    • Universities that are mainly financed by EU funds

    Erasmus mobility grant countries

You can do your traineeship in one of the following 32 countries:

    • EU countries?(including outermost regions, overseas countries and territories): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, the United Kingdom
    • EEA countries: Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway
    • Macedonia, Turkey

You need to live in the host country during the traineeship period (this also applies to traineeships in Denmark).

It is possible to do a traineeship with the Erasmus grant in your home country; however, your application will be given the lowest priority in the assessment of applications.

    The grant

The grant amount is based on the country in which your traineeship takes place.

Traineeships that take place between 2019 and 2021:

    • Programme countries with a higher cost of living (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway and the United Kingdom) provide € 655 per month.
    • Programme countries with a lower cost of living (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia,?Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey) provide € 555 per month.

The grant is paid in two instalments: the first part, 70% of the grant, is paid out in connection to the start of the internship. The remaining part is paid out after the completion of the traineeship period. If the internship is interrupted earlier than agreed, you become liable to repay all or part of the grant.

It is not allowed to receive other grants or scholarships from the EU or the Swedish Council for Higher Education for the same period you receive the Erasmus grant for a traineeship. However, you can apply for the Erasmus grant more than once.

Rail travel grants for Erasmus+ mobility

Lund University has a responsibility to reduce its climate impact and act as a good example/model. Therefore we want to encourage Erasmus+ students, who study or do an internship abroad, to take the train to their destination instead of flying. For the academic year 2019/20, outgoing Erasmus + students and trainees can apply for a rail travel grant. Lund University has decided on a pilot project during 2019/20 in which SEK 100 000 will be allocated to rail travel grants for outgoing students and interns within Europe.

    Grant amounts: ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ??

    SEK 1 000 to Denmark

SEK 2 000 to the rest of Europe

For the student there is an obligation to, within one month of arriving at the host university, send the ticket to External Relations along with a short reflection on the journey and a rationale for choosing rail travel.

The application for a rail travel grant is made at the same time, and using the same form, as the application for the Erasmus+ grant.

Support for Erasmus+ students with children

Outgoing Erasmus+ students and interns accompanied by?children can apply for extra grant funding of EUR 200 per month, regardless of the number of children. Students on internship placements currently receive?a special placement supplement of EUR 195 per month that?students who do mobility for studies do not get. These supplements cannot be combined, but students on placements are entitled to the higher amount EUR 200 if the child requirement is fulfilled.?

The application for a special supplement for children is made at the same time, and using the same form, as the application for the Erasmus+ grant.

Additional support for Erasmus+ students with disabilities

If you are an outgoing Erasmus+ student with a disability, you and your coordinator at Lund University can apply for additional funds from the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) together. These funds can cover up to 100 percent of all additional costs in connection with the mobility abroad.

Additional costs are increased costs which the institution or the individual participant has and which are not financed by other means, for example:

    • transport
    • teaching materials
    • housing
    • personal assistant
    • medical follow-up, physiotherapy
    • medical examination in the host country

You will find the accessibility coordinators' contact details on this webpage

    Erasmus+ mobility to the UK

The Withdrawal Agreement foresees that the UK will continue to participate in the current EU programmes, including Erasmus+, throughout 2020. This means that students who have been offered an exchange place in the UK during 2020 can receive an Erasmus grant.
